Quezon City Officials Visit OECO Circular Economy Solutions in Paris, France to Explore Waste Reduction Strategies
Paris, France - Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte, along with Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability Department (CCESD) Head Andrea Villaroman and Parks Development and Administration Department (PDAD) Chief Arch. Red Avelino, recently visited the OECO Circular Economy Solutions to learn about the French's innovative approaches in reducing and controlling waste, which can be replicated in Quezon City.
During their visit, they toured the OECO Washing Station, Bike Repair workshop, and Ressorcerie. At the washing station, reusable food containers and cups are thoroughly cleaned to minimize the production of single-use packaging. With the facility's high-performance washing technology, over 10,000 containers are cleaned daily, contributing to waste reduction efforts.
At the Bike Repair Workshop, bicycles are repaired to promote active transport in the area. By encouraging the use of bicycles, the city aims to reduce reliance on motorized vehicles, thereby decreasing carbon emissions and promoting a healthier lifestyle.
Meanwhile, the Ressorcerie focuses on repairing damaged appliances and equipment to extend their lifespan, avoiding the need for new products and reducing both waste and greenhouse gas emissions. This initiative aligns with Quezon City's commitment to sustainable practices and the circular economy concept.
Mayor Joy Belmonte, CCESD Head Andrea Villaroman, and PDAD Chief Arch. Red Avelino have actively sought international best practices to address waste management and environmental sustainability. Their visit to OECO Circular Economy Solutions in Paris is part of their ongoing efforts to explore innovative solutions and bring them back to Quezon City.
Currently, Mayor Joy and Villaroman are attending the High-Level Event to End Plastic Pollution organized by the French Government and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). Their participation in this global event highlights Quezon City's commitment to combating plastic pollution and building a more sustainable future.
Quezon City, known for its initiatives in waste management and environmental conservation, continues to lead the way in implementing sustainable practices. By seeking inspiration from global leaders and adapting successful strategies, Quezon City aims to further enhance its waste reduction efforts and create a greener and more eco-friendly community.
As they conclude their visit to Paris, Mayor Joy Belmonte and the delegation look forward to implementing the valuable insights gained from OECO Circular Economy Solutions. Their dedication to environmental sustainability and their commitment to reducing waste will contribute to a cleaner and more sustainable Quezon City for generations to come.
