Financial firm execs, employees undergo drug testing

In line with the government policy on a drug-free workplace, the People’s Volunteer Against Illegal Drugs, a Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-accredited non-government organization, conducted surprise drug tests on executives and employees of a Filipino-owned financial company in Taguig City.

Executives and employees of First Tree Ventures, Moneybees Forex Corporation, and Paylance, Inc., at Icon Plaza, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig, voluntarily submitted themselves to drug testing, a move to deter potential infiltration of illegal drugs into the workplace.

Retired Col. Rodrigo Bonifacio, PVAID chairperson and chief executive officer, said the drug testing process was done in two approaches – the actual tests done on all employees and executives, including First Tree chairperson Marieta Cruz and Moneybees and Paylance president Jay Ricky Villarante, and the drug awareness program.

“We will continue to promote the national anti-drug campaign to encourage private sector cooperation and support for more vigorous and concerted efforts in saving lives from the drug menace,” Bonifacio said.

The drug testing in private workplaces is being conducted in accordance with the Department of Labor and Employment Order No. 53-03, “Drug Free Workplace,” mandating employers to require their employees to undergo random drug testing in accordance with the company’s work rules and regulations for purposes of reducing risks in the workplace.

According to DOLE, employers are responsible for increasing awareness and education of their officers and employees on the adverse effects of dangerous drugs, as well as monitoring of employees susceptible to drug abuse.
