Taguig joins simultaneous earthquake drill
In line with the efforts of Mayor Lani Cayetano to ensure disaster preparedness, the City of Taguig joined the Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) on March 9, 2023, for the first quarter of the year. The drill was conducted in public schools, barangay halls, and residential buildings across Taguig City.
Participants from different barangays, teachers, staff, and students from over 10 schools in the City were taught key earthquake drill concepts such as the Duck, Cover, and Hold method, as well as tips on how to get to safe zones in case of an earthquake. The Taguig City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) also staged a rescue operation where its personnel used harnesses and rappelled down a building while carrying people "stuck" in the structure during an "earthquake."
The Taguig DRRMO, Taguig City Command Center, Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and Health Emergency Management Service (HEMS) of the City Health Office will continue to participate in all NSEDs and conduct rescue and first-aid simulations to further equip Taguigueños with the right knowledge to respond in times of natural disasters.
Mayor Lani Cayetano emphasized the importance of disaster preparedness and urged residents to participate in such drills to ensure their safety in case of natural calamities. "We cannot predict when an earthquake or any other disaster will happen, but we can prepare ourselves to minimize its impact," said Mayor Cayetano. The City Government of Taguig remains committed to promoting disaster preparedness and resilience among its constituents.
