Taguig Generals Sweep KBA Luid Kapampangan, Clinch 2023 NBL President's Cup

The Taguig Generals showcased their basketball mastery by sweeping the best-of-five final series against the KBA Luid Kapampangan, securing their second consecutive championship in the 2023 National Basketball League (NBL) President's Cup on Friday, September 30.

In a thrilling Game 3, the Generals displayed the true heart of champions, narrowly defeating the Kapampangans with a score of 88-87, even as their opponents attempted a dramatic comeback from a 25-point deficit.

Mark Ordoñez led the charge for the Generals with an impressive 19 points, complemented by Edziel Galoy's 12 points. Jonathan Lontoc tallied 11 points, and LJ Mayo contributed nine points, an astonishing 13 rebounds, and three blocks.

In recognition of his remarkable performance throughout the series, Mike Sampurna, who delivered 11 crucial points in Game 3, was honored as the Finals MVP, amassing a team-best 48 points across three games. Both Mike Sampurna and LJ Mayo earned spots in the Mythical 5 of the tournament.

The Generals' path to victory began with a commanding win in the series opener on September 22, with a score of 92-74. They continued their dominance in Game 2 on September 24, securing a victory with a score of 108-90.

This championship marks Taguig's third, including the 2019 Season Two and the 2022 Chairman's Cup, all achieved under the guidance of Coach Bing Victoria.

Coach Bing Victoria expressed his pride and gratitude, stating, "All the efforts and hard work of the whole team have paid off, and I am very proud as a Taguigueño to bring the city a back-to-back championship. Thank you very much Mayor Lani Cayetano and all Taguigeños for giving us the chance to showcase the team's skills and talents and for your unwavering support."
